Sweden at the time was neutral but in the 30s to mid-40s many volunteer troops were sent to Finland because Finlade was invaded by Soviet Union. Swedish volunteer troops and Finnish ski soldiers wearing M40 Snow camo parka fought guerrilla tactics giving heavy damage to Soviet troops.
Hood of M40 parka was made big so it could be worn over wool cap, the parka itself was made larger design so it could be worn over cold weather garment and difficult to distinguish the contour of the wearer.
pullover type that was adopted by many different countries was not adopted and button fly, uncommon at the time, was adopted. Until its replacement M62 Snow Parka was adopted in early 60s, no major modifications were made and used for 25 years
